10 tips to remove the smell of cat urine

Cat urine has a particularly strong and persistent smell. Once your cat has gone to the toilet, it is difficult to get rid of it. Unfortunately, while some soiled surfaces can be easily machine washed, not all fabrics, carpets, sofas or absorbent surfaces can be. Here are some tips to help you eliminate the smell of cat urine from your home.

remove the smell of cat urine

1)The lemon

The advantage of lemon is that it is a natural acid that neutralizes odours without altering surfaces, including the most fragile ones such as leather. Cut your lemon in half and rub one half on the soiled surface. Rinse with a little warm water and repeat until the smell disappears.
Lemon can also help reduce the smell of white vinegar if you have not diluted it enough.

2)Essential oils

Essential oils effectively neutralize the smell of urine. Be careful, however, as these essences are poorly tolerated by cats. Therefore, use them sparingly and don’t let your cat come into contact with them until they are soaked.
In a bowl of warm water, dilute a few drops of eucalyptus and lemon essential oils. These two essences are known for their disinfectant properties and pleasant scent. Spray the mixture on the soiled area and rinse after allowing the product to work.

3)Baking soda and sparkling water

On a thick carpet that is difficult to clean, you can pour sparkling water over the soiled area. Leave it to work so that the sparkling water will naturally loosen the urine from the carpet. Place a sponge or paper towel over the stain to absorb the dirt. As soon as the carpet has dried, sprinkle the stain with baking soda.

4)White vinegar

Without additive, use vinegar to rub the stain. Leave for a few minutes and no need to rinse, as the vinegar will evaporate.

5)The odor absorber

This product has the advantage of being environmentally friendly and you can buy it online at some stores. Simply remove the lid from the jar and place it next to the cat’s urine. You can also put it next to the litter box, the product works for 4 to 6 weeks.

6)Baking soda sprayed

Mix 30 ml of baking soda, 30 ml of liquid dish soap, 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide and 1 cup of warm water. Put in a bottle and spray the area. Let the mixture work for about 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. 100% natural, you can redo this mixture and spray regularly until the smell disappears completely.

7)The oil

Soak a cloth with oil and clean the area, allowing the oil to soak in. Leave it on until the smell disappears. Then rinse with soapy water and a few drops of lemon or baking soda.

8)Household alcohol

Household alcohol is especially effective in removing the cat’s urine odour from tiles. Simply clean the tiles with a cloth soaked in household alcohol and let it work.

9)Soda crystals

If your cat has urinated on your sheets, soak them first in 1 litre of water with soda crystals. Scrub the stains and put them in the machine with a normal programme.

10)Baking soda, essential oil, water and lemon

To stay green, make a 100% natural blend with baking soda, essential oil, lemon and water. To make it up, you need a spray bottle in which you put ½ liter of hot water. Then add a tablespoon of baking soda and shake vigorously. After, pour 3 drops of lemon essential oil and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix well and spray the place. This product works well on carpets or other floor coverings and in addition to removing the smell of cat pee, it also acts as a disinfectant.
